Goku can just blitz him and end it quickly. Trunks won't even see him coming.

Lol, elaborate more in how he's going to blitz him to win. He's just gonna rush and then what?

The Last GT Fighter

Actually, fundamentally, Trunks really does ULTIMATELY have this. Granted, Goku has the speed, but the thing about it is, Goku has a habit of kinda goofing off. Sure he's a great martial artist, but he does TAKE TIME to figure out what his opponent is up to. He also uses his Martial Arts as self defense. He doesn't ACTIVELY attack very frequently. He'll typically duel on par with an opponent and surprise them. At least in Z, DB and DBGT shows a much more inventive and flexible Goku.

Trunks, on the other hand, is very decisive. If he has an opening, any opening at all, he's going to shred his opponent. He gave Frieza a chance to give it all he had. Frieza did, and he failed, and got turned into cold cuts. King Cold tried to surprise him. Trunks countered, and then killed in one swift motion. No mercy. His final fight with the future androids? No mercy! He blew away Future Basic Cell in base form with a simple Kiai, but it didn't stop him from transforming and using the Heat Dome Attack to blast him to Hell in a Hand Basket.

Simply put, unlike other Saiyans, Trunks doesn't screw around. Once Goku's power takes a plunge, or if he lets his guard down to give Trunks a free second, Trunks is going to slaughter him (Presuming that this is Death Battle Rules where one must live and the other must die).
